  • The basic unit of the Legion of Mary is called a praesidium, and it is typically based in a parish community. We invite you to learn more about our local Praesidium and how you can get involved in this spiritually enriching apostolate. Membership is free and open to all faithfully practicing Catholics within the Diocese of Savannah. Come grow in holiness through prayer, service, and devotion to Our Lady.

What is the Legion of Mary?

The Legion of Mary is a world-wide organization of Catholics, men and women, who offer their services to their pastor to aid him in performing spiritual works in the parish. This is done by placing themselves under the banner of Mary so that with her help they may develop greater holiness in their own lives as well as spread a deeper devotion to her among others. The members participate in the life of the parish through visitation of families, the sick, both in their homes and in hospitals and through collaboration in every apostolic and missionary undertaking sponsored by the parish. Every legionary is required to carry out a weekly apostolic work in the spirit of faith and in union with Mary.

Auxiliary
Membership

Auxiliary members commit to:
1. The daily recitation of the Rosary.
2. The daily recitation of the prayers contained in the Legion prayer leaflet called the "Tessera."

Auxiliary members are not obligated to attend any meetings, although it is customary for each Praesidium to plan a get together once a year for its Auxiliary members so that they can get better acquainted with the Legion of Mary and what it is accomplishing.
